Attaching Pneumatic to Tripod

Here's my problem: what is the best way to go about attaching a pneumatic to a tripod? I really haven't been able to find much of anything on this around the site. The tripod I have has a platform on top of a fully rotatable ball. This platform has about a 1/4" screw on it, meant to be screwed into the threads on the bottom of a camera.

What is the size of your chamber? Take a coupling of the same size, and saw it in half (so you now have two semicircle couplings). Screw one coupling onto the base (put a bit of padding over where the screw is so it doesn't scratch or dig into the chamber; it would be best if the screw did not extend past the wall of the coupling). Place the pneumatic on that coupling. Place the other coupling on top. Secure the two halves of the coupling together with two hose clamps.

Voila.

Are you talking about a camera tripod?

Unless it is one studly tripod, or you have a tiny pneumatic, it won't be able to withstand the forces.

But, if you really want to do it here is one way ...

• 1. Get a length of pipe that matches the pipe at the point of the gun you want the tripod to attach to.
  2. Slice the pipe lengthwise but offset to one side by about 1/4th the diameter of the pipe. This gives a c-shaped hunk of pipe that can be clipped onto the gun. (If it is too hard to clip it on then slice some more off the pipe to make the opening of the "C" bigger.)
  3. Drill a hole that is slightly smaller than the bolt on the tripod in the piece of cut pipe.
  4. Ghetto tap the bolt into the hole. If you need more pipe thickness for the length of thread on the bolt you can add another layer of C shaped pipe, this time with an even larger opening. Alternatively, cut the second piece out of a coupler so you are starting with a larger intial ID.
  5. Clip the sliced piece of pipe to the gun. To make it more permanent you can use a bit of PVC glue or a pair of large hose clamps.

jimmy101: Its a very hefty, well built tripod, with a wide base. The Pneumatic I hope to put on it is the pneumatic cannon I posted a couple days back. It is no piston-pneumatic or anything, and the recoil forces are not tremendous.

I suppose the real test will be when I actually fire it...

hmm, i sounds like a telescope tripod to me, if so it should hold up

Its a Canon tripod, and with all the legs fully extended, it stands about 4 ft tall. The perfect height.

I did it myself on my gun here:

I did it by using some aluminium stock that was a close fit with the barrel and hammering the sides in a bit so it kind of held its place, I then drilled a hole in the bottom and threaded it for the camera tripod, you can kind of see the aluminium stock over the barrel in this pic here with the tripod below:
