175psi seems a bit much for sch40pvc to me but Nice gun.
I like extremely simple cannons If it is simple it doesnt mean it isnt powerful and reliable.

Yea, I know, its like the lottery, the chances are low of it blowing but theres still a chance.
The usual pressure is around 125 psi though

175psi would put a lot of wear not only on the pipe but especially on the sprinkler valve. Depending on the brand I think the diaphram rips at around 190-250psi and i think the watermasters rip at about 200psi so you are putting a lot of stress on it. Of couse you not in any danger if the diaphram rips all it will do is automaticly fire the gun and force you to spend another ten bucks on another valve which would be annoying.
I would suggest keeping below 150psi.
175psi is not like OMG you are going to die but it is a little risky as you stated. I keep pvc below 120psi because you never know when you have a faulty joint or pipe and maybey you have a scratch in the pipe that would cause it to rupture.

How do you guys get to 175-200psi range , I mean how hard is it to hand pump to that pressure?
Shop or portable compressors 110 t0 135psi, in my experience, max.
Does any one have a compressor that puts out more than,say,125psi?
I mean into the chamber.

the DeWalt compressors go to 200psi but they are very expensive and the Kolbolt compressors ussually go to 155psi but they are expensive for what they are(bad quality).
Most compressor just do 100-125psi which is generaly enough.
