The math behind it:
Spark length is roughly inversely proportional to pressure, so:
8x = 8 times atmospheric pressure
If the spark is 1" at atmospheric pressure, it should be one eigth of that (1/8") at 8x. If the mix was 2x is would be 1/2", at 4x it would be 1/4", etc...
