Why is it so private?

Because it's not the business of the people who know details to mangle the telling of them. It's DYI's story to tell, not ours.
The people who know have promised not to tell, and all you'll get out of any of them is the repetition of common knowledge, or total nonsense.

He is alive and unharmed (last I heard at least).

Because he asked the very few people he told, not to tell anyone else. Fortunately, I was one of the trusted ones. DYI is fine as far as I last recall, haven't spoken to him or the people he told about him for a long time. If he were in any trouble, you guys would probably know.

Yeah I know it doesn't get that cold here, I guess the weather is just miserable. Always raining and cloudy, windy etc. And I don't like working in jumpers and big warm clothes because it's restricting, sometimes dangerous and I don't want to ruin my clothes haha.

Plus I have little money to be throwing around, hell I've even got a hybrid I can play with but it's just so much hassle with the bursts disks etc and so damn loud.

I'll try to frequent here, I read most topics but I don't tend to reply to many of them anymore unless it's something I can easily help with.
