Ok, let me get this straight...

You connected the air compressor to the quick connect at the left end of this pic.

Between the quick connect and the QEV, you had a blowgun. (no ballvalve, at first.)

Then, -leaving the air compressor connected- you fired the blowgun, to trigger the QEV.

Is that right ?

I could be completely wrong but that is how your first couple of posts read. And I am just curious if that is an accurate description.

I'm guessing the blowgun was on a tee venting to the atmosphere

I assumed that.

Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Yes sorry I guess I should have said that. There was a "tee" with a blowgun. But like I said it wouldn't fire without pulling the airline off anyways so I just simplified things and took off anything that wasn't needed. It appears that a 3-way valve is needed so I'm going to order one soon.

I also forgot to mention I even tried venting the pilot with a 3/4 inch unmodified sprinkler valve. Although this did work it did not vent the pilot quick enough so the shots wernt as strong as when I just pull the airline off.

Was the tee and blowgun in place of, (instead of), the ball valve ?

ie... The QEV, then the tee with blowgun, then the compressor connector. No ballvalve.

Or was it, QEV, then tee with blowgun, then ball valve, then compressor connection ?

Sorry if this sounds like silly questions. But sometimes the best approach is to take simple steps and ask very basic questions.

At first I had the air fitting then a ball valve then a tee going into the pilot and also to a blowgun. This worked only when I shut the ball valve off after the gun was pressurized however simply leaving the ball valve open and pulling the air line off the quick disconnect would make the valve fire faster. It seems that the blowgun does not flow as well as the air fitting itself. I know I could modify the blowgun to get more flow but I want to eventually have this semi auto so I don't want to have to turn a ball valve on and off so that's why I'm leaning towards a 3-way valve. I just want to make sure I get one that can vent the pilot area faster than my blowgun can.

Here is a picture with the blowgun in the configuration i originally had it in. Obviously there is no tee in this picture but hopefully you will get the idea.

Ok, that is a good configuration.

And yes, you have to close the ball valve before you use the blowgun trigger.

It sounded to me like you were trying to get this to work, while still leaving the ball valve open, allowing active pressure from the compressor.

I assumed that you were doing this, because you wanted to have a 'semi-auto' action. (You wanted it to fill back up again, immediately.)

A 3-way valve does sound like a good bet, for what you want.

But I am still left wondering why even a sprinkler valve didn't dump the pilot volume fast enough.

Maybe you got a lemon of a QEV valve ???

Ah, but it worked, just not as effectively:

Presumably there's a restriction at the reducer when connecting the sprinkler valve, so flow out would not be much more than flow in through the airline.
