ya, it was kinda funny they way i lost my last one. i was firing at a wooden fence, and it has like 3/8's slits in it. i fired from ~100' away and it flew right thru one of the slits, never did find it.

if you have the time, make alot of the cones, and glue them later. thats what i do and its worth it.

and im still working on damage pics.

Those look awesome. Unfortunately, I'm way too lazy to make good quality ammunition like that. I'm shooting push pins right now. The darts I can get for my blowgun locally don't work, the metal rod seperates from the plastic cone. And I'm always nicking the plastic which causes them to fly weird.
I'm weird, I know it, you don't need to tell me.

i made some out of 3 1/2" nails there great and they dont tumble ya just have to get the cone circular. ill get some pics up next weekend.

Question: honestly how did you find that frosted plastic works like it does?it just seems that it was either a great "fluke" to have that kind of plastic around when you came up with this idea anyways great how to and these things are great im sick of loosing $10 arrow bolts.

it was complete luck, i was sitting around burning things when i noticed that these things turn clear and rubber-ish. i had...i think it was a lego man, on my desk and i tried to make a mold of his head. it didnt work too well, so i let go of it for ~ a week. at this point my paper dart cone tore off, so i went to the plastic, and it worked great!

i think ill be able to get the damage pics later today.

sweet i go around burning things to...(not) *cough, cough, pyro, cough*
lol nah its a great method to make darts i cant use wire for i have no glue to hold the cone on, so nails with a little bit of wax works great. i wonder if there is a way to adapt it to marbles to stop them curling at long ranges?.

hmm. i dunno bout marbles, but ive been thinking about finned brass projectiles. im going down to the hardware store tomorrow an im going to make a cannon that is an adaptation of Rehab Ralphs dartgun off of SGTC. am also going to pick up some brass rods and pipe, so ill see if i can make anything, and ill post a how to on that, or a normal topic.

i hate to bump up this topic but i have to share my discovery. i made some for my half inch gas pipe barrel with nails and i was impressed. they flew strait and went fast. so i decided to make more . half way though i ran out of JB weld and had to come up with another filler. i found that hot glue works very well with the nails because it molds around the nail head and everything stays in place.

I found a replacement for the homade cones.......

in the electrical departements they sell those little plastic thingies that you twist on the ends of wires to keep them togehter. the largest size (at least i think its the largest size) fits in 1/2 inch copper quite well. and becuase they have metal in the tip, they fly quite nice just by themselves. of course, they dont bury themselves into things, and dont have impressive damage charechteristics, but theyre great for plinking soda cans and stuff, and plus they come in 500 count bags :D

Heres an idea. You could make a mold with like 10 cones equally spaced on it, all the same size. There would need to be holes drilled through the base of what the cones are attached to.
The use a vacuum molding machine to mold the plastic around the mold.
The plastic those things usually use would work very well for these. You could easily make hundreds of those little cones quickly. Some schools have these vacuum molding machines in the tech dept etc.. Just an idea anyway..
