Damn shame you don't have your FC-100 yet, the aquarium shot would have looked great at 1000 or 420 frames per second!

But clucking bell, you split it open! Even though it had an open top! And that tungsten rod was comprehensively shattered, FAPFAP FAP :D

I'm surprised the stainless tip nearly made it through, impressive! It would be interesting to have a composite round, ie drilling a 6mm cavity in the steel tip and inserting a tungsten core.

The buckshot round needed a bit more distance, and a sabot that could open in order to prevent the sabot and balls travelling as one unit.

"Damn shame You do not have your FC-100 yet"
Sorry to disappoint you but I did my best with video equipment.
For the FC-100, I will not have it, I lost € 90 because the site was a scam buying ...

But we still idle that can see the fragmentation ...

The stainless steel spike is impressive for sure!
But I do not understand the point of drill and put a tungsten rod as the tip does not open, the tungsten will remain inside ...

For the buck, it was a shot that was not for science! :D

That's an even bigger shame, sorry to hear that!

certainly :)

See the attached diagram, the tungsten will back the steel with something hard and dense, and at the same time the steel will make the tungsten less likely to shatter by absorbing some of the impact shock, like a capped shell which we discussed some pages ago.
For the buck, it was a shot that was not for science! :D
:D :D :D

yes, yes ...
but for the stainless steel spike pierce correctly I would need a drill press ...
Against the body by aluminum could be replaced by a Delrin sabot because aluminum inhibits the penetration

How many tungsten rods do you have left? maybe I'll make a composite projectile myself.

I don't think that would make a difference. The reason it didn't penetrate is, apart from the hardness, becayse compared to the tungsten, it has a low sectional density.

For the tungsten rod it is 71g/cm2, if you had to make the same rod out of steel it would be about 39g/cm2.

A tungsten insert would increase this considerably, making it more likely to penetrate.

I still have five rods of tungsten.
A composite projectile would be interesting for sure.

I will try to pierce with a drill 6mm the point, putting it in a vice ...

I think that's more likely to result in injury than anything else - don't you know anyone with a drill press you can borrow?

Surely you have place on a bench to mount something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-5-Spe ... 2570428504

If not, don't worry, I'll make you the "ultimate APFSDS" composite round :D

I was thinking of an all-brass dart, with a central hole for the tungsten :D hopefully I will have time for some lathe/mill therapy over the weekend...
