I just had an idea and I was wondering if anyone had tried it before.
I'm thinking of taking one of my Mag-Lites and making it into a mini coaxial combustion. I have two 4 cell lights and one 6 cell light. They are machined aluminum and even have a nifty end cap for venting the chamber... The 6 cell would work best as it's the longest and would probably have the best C:B ratio.
Let me know what you guys think...

I've seen smaller maglites modded to fire .22's.
Anyway, yeah, you're idea will work. Give it a shot (get it?) and let us know how it goes.

Do you think the aluminum would hold up to a oxygen/mapp mix or would it be a bomb in my hand? The main aluminum wall between the button hole and the threads for the battery cap is fairly thick, but I'm wondering if the battery cap threads will hold up.
I really want to make an oxygen/mapp cannon and this would be a good starter project to see how it would perform in the larger version.
Another good thing about the maglite is that with some tape the D cell batteries would fit perfectly in the barrel.

I would worry about how you attach your barrel, and other than that I would consider the machined aluminum to be fairly durable.
I would be really impressed if you pulled it off with a mini mag.
anyhow best of luck on this project. If common items see enough smart people cool stuff almost always results. I have seen these things turn into lasers, now a shotgun, among other things.

I would use the flash lights handle as the barrel, only pushing the projectile in about 3/4 of the way down.. Oh and I will probably try the mini mag since I have two of those with blown bulbs...
That Maglite laser hack was pretty cool... I will have to try that one. If it's really that simple and really that powerful maybe we could use it as an ignition source in our combustions and hybrids??? Stick some flammable material in the chamber and flip the switch sending power to your laser diode and... BANG!
