Cutting pvc square

I dont know if anyone has posted this and it wasnt really worth a post, but i thought i would share something i learned that might help people like me who have absolutely no machining capabilities.

When you want to make a square cut (which should be all the time) just cut it roughly about an 1" from where you want it with a hacksaw. Then get an old endcap and slide it over the end of the pipe to the line where you want it cut square. Then cut along the edge of the endcap with the hacksaw.

Sounds good. Not perfect, but good enough. Out of curiosity, would a mitre saw work for square cuts?

I find that one can use a piece of paper wrapped around the pipe as a guide, provided that this piece of paper has one "factory" edge.

Note that this doesn't provide a hard blade stop, but rather a guide line.

Thus, cuts along this line in a spiral fashion: cut in 1/32", rotate pipe, cut, rotate... until you cut through.

This is the basic method i use on cutting anything that needs a half way straight cut, but i use a sharpie to draw my lines. The end cap is a good idea, just keep the saw blade 90 degress to the pipe to avoid cutting into the end cap.
Remember that old saying, Measure twice, cut once. I measure like about ten time, i can't afford mistakes! Yea, this thread is worth it.

I use either a band saw or a drop saw.Straight and easy.

But I found with practice I could cut PVC straight with a Hacksaw first time every time,but that is with a bit of practice.

I just use a miter saw but the cap idea would be good only if you put like a half inch of the cap on so you could get the pvc out of it.

I cut my pipe with one of those sections of wire with handles on it. Sharpie the flush end onto the pipe and saw away.

Well I guess this thread was worth something, because now people know like 10 different ways to cut pvc square!
