teflon tape

is it ok for me to teflon tape my male adpater thread then screw it on the sprinkler valve tightly? i have done so and have 100% no leeks anywhere on my gun but its safe with teflon tape right?

Solvent welding a threaded fitting defeats the purpose of having threads, and would be rather difficult when connection a brass valve for instance, to a pvc fitting.
