Rifling metal

Has anyone successfully rifled a metal barrel for a pellet gun? I imagine steel would be really difficult even with a carbide cutter. Copper (though I have no idea if there is a size that works) would be easier because it's softer, but would the rifling stand up to the pellets over time?

I know pellets can be shot out of a smooth bore, but rifling does improve accuracy, so if it could be done..

It seems it would be much easier just to obtain an already rifled pellet rifle barrel from an old gun.

As above, you can buy barrels separately as spares.

Yeah, no need to reinvent the (commercially available) wheel I guess. And things I make myself seem to inevitably end up more expensive in the end .

A good(read: really good) barrel will cost you about 100 dollars.
