Why do the spud guns that u show all have curves at the end and then another barrel for the combustion chamber.?

So they are more compact - if the chamber curls back under, it doesn't protrude out the back.

Haven't built an over/under style launcher as of yet but I understand there is no compromise of power.

Well, very miniscule - you do get some flow issues around the bend.
However, it's not going to be noticable, and the chamber can be bigger (which will more than account for any flow issues).
