Is it O.k. to use 1.5 inch DWV (NSF) pipe for a paintball grenade barrel? its only going to use a sabot for shooting them.(does it matter). Is it safe enough to use?? :?

I guess then it depends on how tight you jam the projectile in, I have had Sch 40 fittings fail when shooting a heavy tight fitting projectile, so I mean its up to you. I think the general standard for DWV is ~ 60 to 80 psi.

DWV solid wall ABS is an excellent barrel material because of its high shock resistance and temperature range. I've used a 3" DWV ABS barrel on a 500 psi launcher while firing a projectile that weighed 2.5 pounds and had to be hammered into the breach with a 5 pound sledge, in sub-freezing temperatures with complete success.

DWV solid wall PVC, on the other hand, isn't a very safe barrel material, although it is apparently more rigid than ABS. I've never actually used a PVC part of any kind on a cannon, so I don't really know first hand.

If it is DWV copper, it will be fine.

Specifying what material it is could have made this reply a lot shorter.

its white PVC that says DWV NSF ( my father is an electrician and we have an unlimited supply)

as long as you're ammo doesn't wedge REALLY tight you should be fine, but better safe than sorry, pressure rated pipe is cheap, and your safety is priceless.

It has to be a really tight (as in wedged-in-with-a-mallet) and sealed projectile to blow the barrel, I'd be comfortable with DWV as a barrel in general.

I bet you could use GGDT to estimate the pressure on your barrel as the gun fires. If you input the specs of your gun, calculate, and switch the graph to barrel pressure, it should give you a good estimate of the peak pressure on your barrel. If it exceeds 60-80PSI, you might want to use pressure rated pipe to at least be safe.

Yup, that's the best way to figure it out.
It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.
