I'm not sure if I've ever been so happy to see a gun fail :D

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

So i made a new washer that fits perfectly in the barrel and fired it up to around 50 PSI... and believe it or not.... IT SEALED! and then the washer blew out with a massive BANG! which i sort of expected because I can bend it with my hand.

I felt that this success warranted a topic of its own.. So tomorrow i will make a new washer out of much stronger steel that will hold. For the meantime, here are some pics.

the failure I've never been more happier to see :D

the first piece on the left is what the washer was, the two pieces on the right are what the new washer will be made out of. It's sort of hard to tell, but the two are much, much stronger than the one on the left.

Well then disreguard what i said in your other topic.

But if i were you i would put a washer on top of the giant one since it is so big.

Maybe a washer that is an inch around or so.

Been thanked: 1 time

even I could have told you that was gonna blow, and im known for underestimating the power of things.......

wow. its still impressive though. and completely explains some of my troubles before i added a washer in the front of my piston.........

if i were you, i would flatten that washer out, use it as a template, and then "stack" the washers on top of eachother, just to be on the safe side.

well VH_man i expected it to blow.

and that's exactly what i'm going to do- is use it as a template and use two of the new washers.

That quite an wobbly "about to fall apart any second now" piston. I mean, it doesnt look very sturdy and precise. With the forces of 50psi on such a huge surface, its not very surprising that it failed.

I'd say stop tweaking the same piston for ages, just build a new one and make sure you do everything right that time.

umm, nothings wrong with it.. it seals fine.

i'll probably build another one, but this one just has to last tomorrow night and then i have time to build a new one.

and besides psycix- no matter how i build it the area of the sealing face will always be the same

Then use something else as a body.
Something with a flat surface on the front...
