Flash circit to an ignition coil

hey all, for the ignition on my hybrid, I am going to dump a disposable camera flash through an ignition coil.

I was just wondering whether this is the right way of doing it:

I have a red wire going to one end of the flash tube, a balck wire going to the other end of the flash tube but there is also a grey wire wrapped around the flash tube. what is the grey wire for. I only need a positive and negative for the ignition coil, Will I need to do anything with the grey wire?

It's the ionizing third wire you don't need it.

ok so all I need to do is, take off the red (Positive) and the black (negative) and wire them into the ignition coil?

Yes, if what you're after is to charge up the capacitor and the primary winding of the ignition coil.

If you want to charge the cap then dump it in you need a switch to keep the ignition coil out of the circuit til you want it on.

yes hotwired, I have already soldered a switch onto the camera circit. When the switch is off, it charges the cap and when I flick the switch on, it flashes the flash tube.

Is this What I need or do I need a diffrent setup??

If you've got the flash working on the throw of the switch then yep, all you need to do is put the ignition coil in series with the flash and it'll work as soon as you trigger the flash.

Thanks hotwired will go to the local scrap yard to pick up an ignition coil
