Burst Disk Cartridge/Coupler for Golf Ball Cannons

This idea hit me while driving back to work after lunch at Taco Bell a few weeks ago....

I actually want to improve on this concept but I thought this actual construct may be a useful add-on for anyone interested so I decided to show it.

Installing a burst disk, at least the masking tape ones that I use, on a male camlock that's mounted at the end of a golf ball barrel is a real pain. This concept allows you to pre-build burst disk "coupler/cartridges" without wrestling with the whole barrel. Just install a female camlock on the barrel and you are on your way.

It uses 2 - 2" male camlock adapters, one with female threads and one with male threads. Just screw them tightly together and your ready to install a burst disk and fire away. The golf ball just pops in the top "barrel side". The masking tape adhesive will hold the ball in place just enough.

Everything else is pretty self explanatory.

And we can't forget the gratuitous ~700 fps golf ball firing/damage video....now can we... Notice how consistent each shot damage is on the backside of target...attributable to the consistency of the fueling and ignition system of the gun itself. It is also interesting to note that after the golf ball exits the plywood, it continues on in what is very close to a straight line all the way to the middle of the hill in the background, around 200 yards away....

If I discover it to be a pain to load burst discs i'm doing this for sure. Looks like i'll be able it implement it easily.

Good idea. I know barrels can get in the way but I've been building mini's lately so it hasn't been much of a problem.

I think you meant "hole", 1/4" of human skull offers much less resistance than that plywood sheet would, it would have little trouble going straight through.

Good idea. It should make hybrid work a lot easier as well. The only problem I see with it is the cost of those camlock fittings.

Thanks Hubb, yeah I've envisioned 2 metal male cams back to back and all metal female receivers for use in a hybrid.

The pricing really isn't overly outrageous for them if you stick to the poly models. The metal ones I have to order and are a 50% or so bump up in cost. I bought my poly ones at Northern Tool & Equipment and the metal ones from Mcmaster.

Yeah I love your burst disc setup, 700 fps... Damn! I'm thinking of doing something similar, but haven't come up with any bright ideas yet. I was looking at the price of a stungun camock advanced and it's really not bad! I need to move beyond potatoes for my designs. I've done pretty much all I care to for my dart gun, so I'm a little bored with that. :)

edit: sorry I thought I was PMing starman! Sort of hard to see what I'm doing on my iPhone sometimes. Any way since I kicked up this thread, Starman are you using 1 layer masking tape or more?

3 layers of Scotch (3M) 2" blue painters tape equal about 65 psi burst point. I demonstrated to trigun in this post how I do it.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I am thinking that is the next upgrade I'm going to do to my cannon, the trick is to find a 1" cam lock coupler.

Nice Kershaw pocket knife, I'm a spyderco/Benchmade man myself, but I've always like the mini Kershaws.
