I need a bigger pilot valve...

...and I don't know what to use. I currently have a blowgun and it honks like crazy. I have a big air chamber (5 feet of 4" pvc) and after I fire, I can come back and trigger the blowgun to get a loud honk. Then after a several seconds, I can honk it again...reading from the wiki, I need a bigger pilot valve. However, I don't know of anything to replace it with. Any one got an idea?

oh, it's for a modified sprinkler valve btw.

well how far does it shoot?if its just the honk that u dont like then just dont honk it if the performance is good then dont worry.but u could try drilling your1/4(if you are using one)nipple a little larger and get a highflow blowgun model from mc masters.not sure on part # but just look around.

Wait, so you have a modded sprinkler valve as a pilot valve for a piston gun? or just the sprinkler between the chamber and barrel? If it's the first you could get a qev, or maybe a big butterfly valve and rig up some way to open it quickler.

sorry, it's just a plain sprinnler valve actuated with a blow gun. I think it is just because I have so much air in the chamber left over after I shhot my projectile.

Just the other day I shot a potato about 300 feet using a 2 inch barrel @85 psi. GGDT says that can go 555 feet max. My one inch barrel is supposed to go 1348 feet max. (with 100gm projectiles) I haven't made a support frame for it yet, so I havn't tested it.

There are some modifications you can do to the blowgun to increase it's flow. (and I'm a bit surprised we don't have a wiki artical on that... I'll have to fix that)

1: the [brass] nozzle on the tip - remove it.
2: the flow holes on opposite sides of the blowgun's internal valve - bore them out to be bigger. Don't make them too big, though, or your valve might start leaking.
3: the piston: turn the center of the rod down to be skinnier.

Oh, and I really appreciate the fact that you did your homework on this. It really puts one of the problems we have here - that there are people here with 100+ posts and still don't use these resources - into perspective.

quick question, i have a modded sprinkler valve, and i have a similar problem, is there any deals with length of hose? cause i got a good 3 feet of hose..oh sure it looks cool but im beginning to wonder if thats the problem

Excessive hose length has been known to cause problems - to my understanding, it's mostly a larger pilot volume compounded with somewhat reduced flow.
You may want to try it compleatly without the hose. If the problem persists, though, it's something else.
