Compact uber rifle- 400 psi

Well, my Bellpro 1/2" QEV got here so I put together my new cannon.

Here's some basic specs:

Bore: .212 (goddammit), 1616 anodized aluminum
Barrel length: 90 cm
Op. Pressure: 300-400 psi (shock pump)
Valve: 1/2" QEV, ported by modded blowgun
Laser sights
Ammo: Lead shot, nails, q-tips and so on.
Fittings are brass, qev is aluminum, blowgun is crapalloy

Extremely light, the complete cannons weighs just shy of 500 grams. (roughly one of your US pounds)

Dry fires get me in trouble with this gun..at 400 psi with no barrel firing it gets every tourist at the woolshed looking this direction.

Before I type any more, how can I fix the leaks? I used white (thin) teflon, which is usually intended for water so it leaks very slowly, and I want to be able to stop the bloody leaks. What's the best way to go about this?

It has some fair go to it- I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. All of these damage shots were water filled, shot with unmodded q-tips.

The hydrostatic wasn't as good on this one, because I only used 200 psi..meh

Edit: yep..similar to you and your marshmallows..

Range is a bit limited with Q-tips, they just don't hold up..they tear themselves to bits.

I want to try get "lethal"(figuratively, not literally) velocity out of a nerf dart, then go over to NH to show them just how awesome spudders are. I think 800 psi will do it.

Hey that little gun is pretty cool 8) I bet you could silence the crap out of it as well. Looking forward to video. I am starting to feel myself slowly gravitating toward the smaller side of things as well for some reason. Compact, light weight, fun and POWERFUL as well? Sounds like fun to me.

Edit: Qwerty, it has a laser..notice the ominous red dot on the can before it gets blasted. The laser is accurate so far, but if I get some longer range ammo then I'll add some sights to find the dot with. FPS is probably in the upper ranges, given the extremely light ammunition and high pressure.

Well, I opened up the QEV for inspection, and I found out where a lot of the leaking was coming from. Bits of teflon tape had been vacuumed to the piston seat, allowing leakage. These were removed, and leaking was reduced by around 95%. There was no damage to the QEV at all. I highly reccomend anyone looking at trying a bellpro QEV. The price is right, postage is fast and the guy is great and very helpful. They have a good shape to integrate into designs and port very quickly. My only thought is that the porting is a little small, so take that into account. The 1/2" QEV has a 1/2" pilot threads, 1/2" chamber threads and 3/8" barrel threads. It's actually smaller in every dimension (Length, width, height) than a 1/2" tee.

I'm still looking for a better ammo, when I find one I'll do a long range damage shot composition.. Q-tips die shortly after leaving the barrel.

The laser is great for aiming by the way, you can get them from any cheap dodgy store for $3 aud, so you guys in America wouldn't have a problem finding them for $2

If you're looking for stopping leaks, yellow gas tape is usually sold at the same spot you got the water tape, and works much better for compressed air.

I was using yellow, and I ran out 3/4 the way through. Next time I can get yellow I'll grab some and re-do it.

Do you guys reckon it's better to do it just hand tight or really clamp them down?

Turned out real nice mate, the bellpro QEV looks real shmick. I ordered mine yesterday + a couple of goodies of ebay (laser,bi-pod & scope etc.) for my new gun should be good 8) .

Have your ran it through GGDT yet ? FPS would be interesting.

As for leaks i usually put a dab of Loctite 567 Hydraulic sealant on the threads if plumbers tape aint working. 567 definetly can be undone once applied so its not irreversable but will provide a strong air tight joint.

I've put epoxy over were the schrader was leaking, and superglue elsewhere. It should help seal but wont stand up to a wrench if it needs to be undone.

don't forget that you can use o-rings with some fittings they are even better than PTFE tape

Looks like your whole video is silenced for some reason. No sound. I also like loud reports personally. it just makes shooting it that much more fun. I thought maybe you were one of those hokey silencer folks
Oh, for a bit more coin you can get a green laser which has much better daytime visibility of course. But you won't find them for 3 bucks lol.

The nerf rifle is going on the backburner; I'm designing a contest build to use superlight gasses without any specialized bottles, regulators or equipment (asides from what I build). Not only that, the gun will be nearly perfect, with optimized flow and the like similar to the HEAL. Piston valve ported by a 1/2" QEV, superlight piston and so on..

Looks great! I love what those q-tips can do, but as far as your search fo better ammo goes i think i may have a crap shot at a solution.

When i was in high school, the shop classroom had plastic injection machines that we used to create our own screwdrivers. It would force the plastic into the mold which also held the driver shaft. If you were to make such a mold that would accept nails or other sharp metal shafts, then you could mold a plastic tail right onto the metal.
