more on pumps
OK so i know i have been asking alot of questions about pumps on here, but i just have one more. OK so i bought a cheap bicycle pump at Walmart(i couldn't find a beto). from my experience the part that seems to go out on them is the leather washer. i considered making my own pump like gippeto's but i don't think it would have the kind of volume im looking for. so i was wondering if anyone has made a piston head like the one on gippeto's to replace the leather washer type in the pump. that way it would be more serviceable and i think i would get better performance and last ALOT longer. has anyone done this type of mod?

What's your objection to using eBay, if you really want a quality pump at a very reasonable price?
im not looking for any higher pressure, 100 psi is enough for my pvc cannons. i am a second year college student so when i moved out of the house i moved away from all the tools my dad had. i have a very good set of hand tools but almost worthless power tools. i am going to see what i have to do to gain access to the machine shop but i think i might have to take a mech tools course.Gippeto wrote:What's stopping you? well like i said above im a college student and reasonable to me is not as reasonable other people might think. i think my idea would outlast any higher end pumps in the long run because if it starts to fail i can just replace the oring and lube it up.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:What's your objection to using eBay, if you really want a quality pump at a very reasonable price?

I think you should leave it alone.
If it fails, then do whatever but don't hack it up to put in a more complicated part for the sake of it, might end up crippling the pump for nothing.
If as you say its the leather washer that will fail then no harm will come to the rest of the pump in the meantime.
Besides, leather seals aren't that bad, more tolerant of crap than o-rings at any rate.

Actually, I would be much more concerned with the pump handle failing.Hotwired wrote:If as you say its the leather washer that will fail then no harm will come to the rest of the pump in the meantime.
You really don't want a steel rod shoved through your hand / arm / eye.
to all spudders that have hand pumps
