Wanting to have a firing push button (Momentary or on/off ) for my project that will be 24"+ away from my Chamber, QEV and Pilot . Probably going to have to go Electric on my Pilot, since Ball Valve and Blowgun are out of the question.
Who makes a good powered Pilot valve that can handle 150PSI +
Going to be self powered so I'd like to stay around 12 volt if possible so I don't have to go with to many batteries.
Thanks
Powered pilot valve for QEV ?
ummm well its not out of the question... for example on my rifle

Okay since no one responded, can anyone tell me would this Asco 12 volt 1/4" 2 way Valve work for a replacement for a 1/4" Ball Valve ? Using it with a QEV .
Around $25 at most places.

if you want to use it to pilot a QEV you might as well buy a 3 way valve not a 2 way valve.... a 3 way valve allows to both fill the gun and pilot itcan anyone tell me would this Asco 12 volt 1/4" 2 way Valve work for a replacement for a 1/4" Ball Valve ? Using it with a QEV .
it depends what do you meant by 'good'... the BV is cheap and has good flow (but has slow opening time)... but there are other things that might be important for him.. things that the BV can't doyes but it wont be as good as the ball valve

Well since I can never get any answers, I guess I am going to have to re invent the wheel. Sad to do this when I'm sure there are a lot of good folks here that could help me out , but I'm either suspecting that some want to keep things a secret, or most just copy the same old Ball valve ,blow gun valve design year after year without improving on anything.
Looks like I'll just buy a bunch of parts that I may or may not need ,to see what works and what doesn't and spend a lot more money on this project than what I had planned.

No point in keeping secrets here, it goes against the whole idea of the forum. And yes, it is possible to clobber together standard parts and get something that works without understanding the physics involved, so not everyone puts the same level of thought into their launchers.tatfree wrote:I'm either suspecting that some want to keep things a secret, or most just copy the same old Ball valve, blow gun valve design year after year without improving on anything.
To answer your question:
Yes that would be a good pilot valve for a small QEV, likely even better than the ball valve of the same dimensions due to the much better opening time. True, a ball valve has better flow when fully opened, however the QEV is going to start to open the instant the ball valve is cracked open which makes this advantage null in real terms, so opening time is more beneficial than flow in this case.can anyone tell me would this Asco 12 volt 1/4" 2 way Valve work for a replacement for a 1/4" Ball Valve? Using it with a QEV.

Why not go to a local automotive salvage yard and pick up one of the 12V Electric Solenoids, that operate the electric door-locks? These have more than sufficient pull (or "push", for that matter) to operate a standard blowgun trigger. Rigged with the right linkage setup, you could even be able to open a 1/4" Ball Valve.

Quick Google search, provided the picture. Here's the link, to buy a new one: Power Door - Black Widow Security

anyway you got your answer in my post...
The QEV is filled and vented through its pilot side... if you use a 2 way valve you won't be able to both fill and pilot the main valve... you'd need 1 more valve for a full fill/pilot sequence (or you'd need to disconnect the air source prior to firing) anyway using two valves = more pilot volume and mass (sice you've got to use quite a lot of fittings to connect the two valves to the qev)
no one ignored your questions... I answered but you didn't ask 'why would it be a better idea to use a 3 way, rather than 2 way valve??'
I hope you get it...? well in case you don't...if you want to use it to pilot a QEV you might as well buy a 3 way valve not a 2 way valve.... a 3 way valve allows to both fill the gun and pilot it

Basically how my cheap weekend project has turned into a year-long more than $350 investment. Sometimes it's fun to reinvent the wheel though, you learn a little bit more that way and you end up with a wheel to call your owntatfree wrote:Looks like I'll just buy a bunch of parts that I may or may not need ,to see what works and what doesn't and spend a lot more money on this project than what I had planned.
