Building for the biggest "Boom" sound

Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to spud guns so please bear with me.

I have built a rocket launcher type cannon already and it works fine. I have a general idea of how to put things together at this point.

My question is:

I would like to build a pneumatic launcher that is basically designed to make the biggest "boom". I am actually not concerned with launching any kind of projectile from it really, and accuracy is not at all needed. Since fire = bad in California's dry climate, I would like to stick to pneumatic to do this. CO2, Air, whatever I don't really mind. I am trying to make as big a noise as possible without the use of combustion essentially.

A burst disc make a lot of noise, I have a little 3/4" burst disc Here that makes a big bang.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure I understand how the burst disk is inserted and re-inserted etc but I am sure I Can figure it out. Is there any video any place or sound file anyone has so I can hear one of these?

Look in the "hybrid showcase" sub-forum and you will see alot of burst disk guns. They are not pneumatic but you can use the disk setup from them.

Unions is what's used the most.

Here's Where I got my idea. Also some of his videos

Basically (well technically :D) Its a piece of duct tape inbetween a coupler and another piece of pipe. When air is applied the tape bursts and makes a loud POW!

Hint. Sand the coupler and the pipe so that they are a very loose fit this way the duct tape will not be hard to load.

On this page there is a sound recording of a 1 inch fast piston valve dry fired at 80 PSI. A burst disk will have more of a pop sound as it opens faster. Fast piston valves are loud with a short barrel. Burst disks are even louder.
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/present ... 21108.html The sound file is a wav near the bottom of the first post saved as a zip file. A larger cannon will make a bigger sound.

Well I'll tell you what, when I put a 2" tee with a hole in the middle on the end of my 1.5" GB barrel, it makes the most piercing bang I have ever heard at 60 psi, I don't dare go 100 psi.... it is a 2" piston valve with a massive 2" chamber BTW.

Ranger, a ball valve in combo with a burst disk is mych safer cause you know when its going to go off

Yep, short barrel and burst disk is going to make a lot of noise. definently have a valve behind the burst disk so you know when its going to fire.

With a tee muzzle break on the end...
