Check out my first spud gun!

Boom! The classic potato gun harnesses the combustion of flammable vapor.

Hello everyone, 1st post here at spudfiles and I want to show you guys the first spud gun I've ever built. It is a "spray and pray" as some would say but it's more powerful than you'd think. The spud gun weighs 5 lbs 3 oz and has a 2" x 40" PVC barrel. A 4" x 12" PVC combustion chamber with screw-on end cap. A piezoelectric grill igniter wired to the back of the combustion chamber. I also mounted my Flip Ultra HD to the combustion chamber for an fps-ish view lol and by mounted I mean I duct taped it on there haha!!

Pictures of the spud gun and the Axe I use for fuel:

1/2" plywood is no match for potatoes:

I don't know how far this thing can shoot but potatoes get 9 seconds of hang time when fired straight up which you can see (well, hear) at the end of this video I made

Comments would be appreciated.

I can't tell you much, since all you've provided is a video of something shooting something at something that looks like plywood and putting a hole in it, then what is likely the same something shooting something and it disappearing from view. Not really much to go on.

Welcome to Spudfiles. We love specifications .

Much better :) now that you've mastered the archaic art of the basic spud cannon, do you plan on moving to more advanced projects? Proper fuelling from a propane or butane cannister and a chamber fan would be obvious improvements ;)

It is a very nice shot. Well done.

I presume this is a combustion? Tell us about the launcher.

Wow I'm surprised by all the good feedback I'm getting on here and on youtube, glad I could entertain you guys for 20 sec lol.

@Tech: Yep it's a combustion and it's just a simple "spray and pray". I made a thread about the gun here if you want to know more http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/check-o ... 22197.html

I was guessing it was a combustion due to the lack of a pilot hiss before the bang. Thanks for the confirmation

Yeah. If only you had a mannequin or something...

I should make it a point to shoot a 2 liter full of kool aid at something with my upcoming 4" pneumaitc. Which is actually for school. teacher approved. :D

Great video. I've tried balloons full of ketchup(as projectiles), but it wasn't the same.

Brilliant, that would have looked great in HS!

Someone should do it with a mannequin, a kind of larger scale version of this ;)

yea but you'll have to fill it with fire crackers or some thing or else it'll just slowly bleed out from the entrance womb and you won't get the imploding effect you want with the OJ container.
some day spudfiles is going to take over the world.
