Unthread the shaft from the needle valve (base) of the torch, and thread in the 7/16"-24tpi straight threads from a 1/4" NPT x 1/4" OD compression adapter into the base with some teflon tape.

If it looks anything like the one in the how-to, then yes.
Picture please? It's most likely you're just not trying hard enough. Using a 10" pipe wrench and an adjustable wrench I just kept twisting until it came apart.
