What is the best combustion vapor?

This is my first post here, not sure if this question is in the correct area.

I'm getting ready to make alcohol gun and I got to thinking if alcohol vapors are the most explosive. I was wondering if anyone here has experimented with other substances, like butane, propane, or even gasoline to see which (safety) gives the best combustion power/FPS?
