I assume on would explode upon impact if it didn't already explode within the barrel.

Eggs come in many sizes. Some will just fit down the barrel but have alot of contact with the barrel walls which causes friction. When fired out of a spudgun the friction is usually so high due to the roughness of an egg they crack. Even when hard boiled they can crack but sh*t doesn't go everywhere. Or freeze them. But if you do freeze them make sure the egg isn't too tight of a fit in the first place give it some tolerance.

And yes the force of the pressure and sudden impact can also crack eggs.

well i can truthfully say that yes you can shoot an egg.....this is the story...of how i shot the egg...mmk..well me and my freind were up at my house when i got bored with potatoes and onions so i decided how i could shoot and egg....first i just put a regular egg down in there with a paper towel around it so it would be snug...it blew up on combustion impacts....luckily it was in a paper towel..so the second time i hard boiled it and froze it....came back in an hour got it out of freezer but this time i wraped it in thin sheets of foam...shot it it went atleast 300+ feet and hit my neighbors house and exploded ( b00m ) all over...i explained that it was and accident but got groudned anyway...if u want to shoot an egg just wrap it in something like foam...mmmk

OK...after JUST now experimenting with eggs...i do not encourage.

Had to clean out my barrel and kinda wasted the eggs.

I used a full dozen, with only 2 successful. Both times they were about a perfect fit and i used A TON of toilet paper under it for wadding.

One of the eggs cracked as it slid into my barrel. I just said fuck it and shot all that gunk out.

Very messy, very sticky....i need a shower now.

don't do it.

Guys, just use a paper cup for a sabot - the paper cup protects the egg from the inside of the barrel during launch. Put some cotton or paper towel scraps under the egg (inside the cup) to help pad the G force of launch.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

I believe Gort has a story about shooting eggs that were over a year old, might have been someone else though.

Na, na, na, no freezing, no boiling. A nice sabot should work just fine. A sabot like the one on mythbusters that they use for chickens shootin' at the airplane window. The eggs are probably breaking in the barrel from "hitting" the sides of the barrel, and the impact from firing, of course.

Yup! That was me. I brought 2005 Easter Eggs to the 2006 summer shootout in Kentucky. They were smelling pretty bad before shooting, but when we actually launched one and popped it in the barrel.... OH GOD was that horrid! Needless to say we tossed the rest in the garbage and put the lid on. :P
