Hey guys im new here. i dont really know much about paintball guns, but id like to learn. iv always been in to building random stuff. like i just finished building a hovercraft a while ago. pretty sweet. but my friends were talking about having another paintball war and i wanna join-but. no paintball gun. and so i looked for some online, and i asked for advice. and all the good ones cost way too much. rather than buying one, i figured i could just make my own. but could someone explain to me how a basic paintball gun works? thanks a lot.

I suggest you go buy a cheap one for 20 bucks, tear it apart and thereby learn how they work. Better yet, go to a paintball arena or your buddies' houses and ask them.
Then, you can come back here and finish this thread where you divide some of your infinite paintball-gun-making-knowledge to us poor chaps.

Sorry to ruin the fun but it's probably going to cost more to make one than to buy a cheap one. At least if it's semi auto. I tried to do the same thing. Your probably better off buying a cheap pb gun.
The main problem is getting an air source. If you use CO2, you'll need a regulator which costs around 80 dollars so right there your screwed. You can haul around a bike pump but I don't think that would be much fun in a pb game. You could also use a portable air compressor but those are heavy and I don't know how fast they can pump.
Hope that helps.

80$ for a reg? i payed 145 for a reg/guage setup, a ballvalve and wire mesh pressure hose. the reg itsself is 79, but it aint gonna do you much good by its self
There are rules, and then there are hundred dollar bills.

All you need is a reg and co2 then just wake your own tank, chamber and barrel. But yeah this is a pretty stupid thread, its quite obvious. Though being helpful just build a bigger vortex.
