Hey, I've just come up with a new design for some tracer ammo. It's basically made from a half of an easter egg and the tip end of a soda bottle with a cheap LED light I had lying around. All you really need is a clear projectile that u can put an LED light into. Now you have yourself a tracer round. What I really needed was a clear bouncy ball that I could drill a hole into for the LED light to use as my projectile, but I couldn't find one.

here are some pics:

cool idea. i might have to try one. what kind of batteries did you run the LED on? and does it have a switch to turn the LED on and off?

Simple, yet effective. A very nifty idea, good job!

It was from a cheap pen that had an LED light fixture in the back. I was just lucky i had gotten that pen...
I changed my design too, and got a clear bouncy ball. but I would use LEDs with batteries taped on to the electrical contacts sticking out the back of the LED, and then i would insert that into a clear ball.

yea I would definitely use the instructables link.. simple cheap and effective. I have an idea for the shell though....You could also use empty shotgun shells and glue some lead sinkers into it..like at the brass end, then glue the LED throwie into it on top of the sinkers..That way the light would be more focused...Do you get what I'm saying? The sinkers are for weight so it goes farther.

I know what u mean. I just don't have a barrel that fits shotgun shells. Nice idea though.

wait can your tracer ammo take the impact of it hitting something? it would be a shame to shoot it and then loose it.............

I remade my ammo to be more durable. Instead of the easter egg its a clear rubber bouncy ball now. and the back end of it is now flared. The only thing the same is the LED light. No, my ammo couldn't survive the impact of hitting a target (it survived hitting the ground), but if you drilled a hole and and put the diode with the battery directly inside the bouncy ball it probably could survive the impact very well. This type of ammo should probably be used for like the 4th of July or New years. You could maybe even put a parachute on it so it would be safe to shoot on an occasion like that.

do you remember the thread about trying to find ammo?

well id think that you'd really only need this kind of thing if you were shooting at distances. if you make it so when it lands on the opposite side of the throwy then i think it will be able to stand the thud on the ground.
