When you turn the engine sideways ,the oil which normally stays in the bottom end ,is now dispersed through the engine and the oil will now not be picked up by the oiler .(whichever type it uses) The engine could run this way but it will not run very well or for very long.

modify a small car diff,or use some bevel gears somehow. i would not personally tip it up the wrong way,if u want a horizontal shaft, buy an industrial motor
