Soda Can Barrel?

I just sleeved 2.5 inch pvc into 3 inch pvc and the soda can fits perfect. I wanted to save my 2.5 inch for tennis balls and I was inquiring if there a different way to make a soda can barrel. I checked "How-To" already and I did not find anything.

Just buy another piece of pipe for soda cans.

so does 2.5 inch fit it or does it have to have a slit cut in it?
