well im working on a ball valve copper gun and im sweating the pipes together. i sweated evrything except the ball valve and barrel. there are little rubber o-rings in the ball valve and i didnt want to melt them but then i thought the fire isnt consistant enough to really get the rubber to do much. well now im torn. i just wanted to be safe rather than sorry. well now the point/question. will i melt the rubber o-rings if i sweat it? if i will then what should i use instead? epoxy?

I think that if you sweat it on quick enough (sounds like you have a bit practice!) it should be fine, the metal in the valve should soak up most of the heat.
Just make sure you quench it straight after you have done a good but quick job :wink:

You could always get a threaded ball valve.....

ya if i sweat it fast enough i could very well not melt it. a threaded ball valve is also an option. i think i might as well go with a threaded ball valve since i plan on possibly having interchangeable barrels.

actually id have to estimate it to be close to 1/4th of an inch from the begining of the ball valve. it probably is 1/4th its pretty far back. i still think i might use a threaded ball valve.

I've never seen endfeed ballvalves... I'd have thought it was a pretty bad idea to make ones with seals that melt as you attach them to your system...

Threaded would be safer.
