Camera Flash 4.JPG Contrary to the comments shown in the schematic above, the gauge of the wire from the coil to the spark strip doesn't really matter, any gauge wire will work just fine. You do want to have fairly well insulated wire and keep the red and black wires reasonably well seperated.

Spark plug wire works OK for the high voltage connection but it is not the best choice. The insulation on spark plug wire will withstand the very high voltage that the coil generates better than most other types of wire, but spark plug wire has very high internal resistance, typically 100,000 times greater than standard copper wire.
