Does anyone have an idea on how long it would take to get 30cm of 1/2in Gal pipe up to a good pressure with a shock pump?

Probably around 2-3 minutes to take it to 300 psi.

Never bothered counting but well over 100 - it's a good workout, trust me, and more socially acceptable than masturbation ;)

Haha thats the one. I doubt I'll need to get to 300psi anyway. 200 should be plenty to do some good damage with a bb though  but obliterating the target with 300 just sounds way too tempting haha.

Is it possible to go over the 300psi recommended limit and really get some high pressure?

The highest I ever got (estimated as the gauge only goes up to 300 psi) was around 425 psi, I can't see your average person doing more than that with a small shock pump. With specialist (and correspondingly expensive) stirrup pumps used for commercial pneumatic rifles you can go up to 3,000 psi easily.

425psi?! Your arm would have been feeling pretty lousy after that. After I make my bb rifle, I'll make a bb piston handgun just for fun. I'll make the chamber small enough so with the shock pump, it'll get up to pressure real quick.

I saw one of those 3,000psi pumps on ebay... Not exactly within my price range...

400 psi takes around 3-4 minutes with my airsoft rifle, which has a 1/2" x 8" chamber (and a coaxial barrel). 300 psi took 1/2 to 2/3s the amount of time.

It depends, for a large calibre launcher with a large chamber a compressor is ideal, but for small high-velocity BB pneumatics, high pressure in a small chamber gives the best results, an for that (unless you get a very expensive high pressure compressor) a small shock pump is the most cost effective filling method.
