You need to use steam in that thing... It could be done with no modifications, and could give it decent power if you added a longer barrel.

If you use galvanised it won't rust. I've only used steam guns up to 160 psi, due to my lack of any good sealing face materials for high temp, but steam is usually similar to hydrogen in performance for a given pressure, sometimes moreso.
Whatever you do, don't expect any wonderful performance out of a gun this size without light gases and thousands of psi.
