Very true, however do you know how often they must run into legal shit? I don't have the resources or ability that they have. Site with a staff of people and a massive user base and profits out the wazoo > SpudFiles.
Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).

Good to know that it's from a legal standpoint rather than a safety one.

Guess it's just a fringe benefit.

I can see the problem with the spambots. One of the better spam bot filtering ideas I've ever seen was to have a question in the registration that asked a simple maths question - in text, like:
"What is three times nine, plus one? Answer in text form, lower case, no spaces"

Obviously, that's "twentyeight"

That would completely flummox any spam bot, but anybody with the most basic of maths skills would get past that incredibly easily. Much better than questions like "Are you a spambot?" which don't work against them any more.

Jesus guys, this kid is a loose cannon. Perm banned off APC for being an asshat and asking how to get chemicals to make fireworks, behind his parents backs.

I've been trying to find a link between "BombBuilder" on APC and "CannonCreator, here on SF.... and now I just fought it in this thread....

He was asking if he should make a PayPal account saying he's 18 so he can buy chemicals illegally, to make illegal explosives...

He was trying to order chemicals to make flash powder with a fake ID or something... By the way, flash powder is an illegal explosive, that technically only licensed pyrotechnician should be able to mix... It is possible to make it safely if you know what you are doing, but this kid (14 years old), didn't even know the formula or any safety precautions for it and he was trying to order chemicals for it....

This kind of action severely hurts the pyrotechnic community, and the name BombBuilder didn't help it any at all...

I don't care if he's here at SpudFiles, but I'm just warning you, he's been known to try and do dangerous, highly illegal things behind his parents backs...

Here's his APC member page if it matters to you...
http://www.apcforum.net/forums/index.php?showuser=3158

You may have to be a member to see it...

If he's straightened up, and hasn't done anything wrong here, there's no reason to ban him, but if there's a pyrotechnic section (ever), he shouldn't be allowed in it, unless he's proved himself a non-idiot.

*shifty look*

I was only about 8 when I was dissasembling cluster fireworks the day after the big public display and before the council guys came along to clear them up. Theres never a 100% ignition rate on those things y'know. Well not the first time round anyway... *cough*

Age doesn't mean anything much.

Making spudguns is hardly on the safe side of legal itself ^_^

Pcguy's said theres not much chance of there being a pyro section so theres not likely to be a problem on this site.

I have no problem with any age making Spud guns... and I know there's not restrictions here. For this reason (but not this reason alone), there shouldn't be a pyro section... Even a kid that would make explosives behind his parents back could make spud guns safely...

Just the avatar and the matches between the user names (both have alteration, and follow the pattern "potentially dangerous object" + "person who constructs it") would have been enough proof for me.

Similarities in writing style would have made it final for me.
You're obviously rather more thorough than I am.

The fact that he said he was CannonCreator is a pretty strong link to me. http://www.apcforum.net/forums/index.ph ... st&p=24641

I really need to get into that group of 20 people...

But I've never really had much of an interest in explosives or pyrotechnics in general. They're fiddly, rather difficult to obtain materials for, and almost invariably illegal. It's not that I lack the capacity to understand them, only the will to learn about them.

And clide, you can't get evidence much more concrete than that...
