If I got it correctly, it's a butterfly type valve actuated by a spring.

Looks like a butterfly valve with the handle removed and rigged up for spring actuation.

Like a ball valve with a spring to open the handle, except this appears to be a butterfly valve and the handle is removed as you usually have to squeeze them and then turn.

Edit: God damnit, beaten by JSR. What are you doing up this early anyway JSR?

I usually wake up early at around 5:30 to get some online time before work, then I'm usually at work 6:30-7:30, the earlier I start then the earlier I can get home ;)

I'm almost sure that the valve is a butterfly valve, with spring actuation, like JSR and Crowley said.

And it's nice to see that someone outside of this site is able to make a proper cannon. Chamber volume was excessive, but it didn't suffer from the usual Youtube cannon problems of choked flow, short barrels, and slow valves.

It actually seemed like a pretty nice cannon, I think he said he was using a Ford hood spring as the actuator, I may have to look into that...

I really want to know how he made that chamber I'd like a premade metal chamber with a large opening

The chamber is a large propane bottle like for use on BBQs. He probably welded a large pipe on the front with a flange to accept the valve.

The action seems pretty nice.

I'm digging the use of a bike brake lever to release the loaded butterfly valve, I only look for finger lever triggers on small cannons, scaled up, a bike lever is perfect for a beastie like that ^_^

Looks great, butterfly valve must have cost a bundle. i do object ,however, to the excessive chamber volume and the dude sticking his hand in the barrel of a charged cannon. looks pretty sweet with the handbrak trigger though
