2" porting piston valve

Hi all,

Ive decided to make a piston valve because i cant be effed forking out 100 bucks for a 2" solenoid valve

I am going to have it as 2" porting and am wondering if it is better to house it in a 3" or 2.5" tee?

also would wood be an acceptable piston material providing i cut cross grain?

What would be an ideal bumper for this also?

sorry for the noobish post but i would like to make sure this works without too much hassle

Well i would really go for whats cheaper, which would probably be a 2.5 inch tee.

But it may be harder to find a 2.5 inch reducing bushing to a 2 inch.

As long as the wood has a tight enough fit to be pushed by the air, then its alright. You can always mold a piston or use endcaps if you cant get the wooden piston to work, and it might be harder to find something that will fit in 2.5 inch pvc that will work good as a piston.

Any good soft material will do, a pool doodle wouldnt be bad, but it may be a hassle to glue. I reccomed attaching the bumper to the piston.

We'll here's the deal:

If you house it in a 3" tee, it will be slightly bulkier, but perform about the same.

If you house it in a 5/2" tee, it will be more compact... but you will have to special order nearly every part, along with 5' or so of 5/2" pipe, to make the valve, which will get real expensive, real fast.

The only person I've seen to use a 5/2" tee for 2" porting is Sgort, and he gets away with it because his parts are ordered in bulk and assembled en masse.

I say go for the 3" tee.

A 2 1/2" will have less volume behind the piston to be vented by your pilot valve making it respond a little quicker.

It would also have less volume between the chamber and barrel. Less wasted air.

But in the end if a spud is airborne and you smile does it matter?
