If you were you could've used pressure rated pipe, and primer...

A little more research+homework...

I was wondering if you could create a sabot that would split after launching...

Basically a four section's sabot which "blows out" after launching...

Well, been working with plumbers who never use primer, in projects where PVC is under 120psi, never crossed my mind till the other day when I came across something about it.

And DWV, deadly blonde moment I guess.

Hmm, also I'm going to rebuild it sometime in the next week so, it will be built safely, I'll try another type of sabot, I'll see about how to do that, maybe lots of GreatStuff. I'll post my findings, granted water balloons in winter, even PVC in winter isn't a bright idea either. Maybe I'll use a black iron chamber this time.

Love the design but as already stated its not that safe. I used to have fun launching water balloons out of an old 1" ball valve pneumatic thats trashed now, i used a bell reducer also so you're not the only who has made that mistake. I might have to put this on my to-build list for when summer rolls around.

Next time you go to the hardware store just ditch the guy trying to help you because chances are they have no idea what they are talking about. You're better off just examining the fittings yourself to see if they are rated nsf-pw.

Overall, great design but it needs a rebuild using pressure rated parts and primer.
