Aside from cannons, people also like to see cannon effects, be that distance shots, special effects or the ever popular damage shots.

I think a dedicated shot showcase would be useful and desireable for visitors and members. Specifically about shots taken and not for cannon posting but links to the cannon used would be useful.

There might have to be some enforced rules on how to post a shot to allow comprehensible searching so a thread might be called for example:

20mm Ball Bearing Vs 1.5" Chipboard

With optional speed and energy levels after that if known e.g

20mm Ball Bearing Vs 1.5" Chipboard @ 219m/s 453J

There is currently a forum section for "Construction Materials/Ammo Discussion" but as it says it's for discussion of ammo plus a whole raft of other things.

What say ye?

I can just imagine a mother whose poor kid had spent ages convincing her that "it's only a spudgun mom, what harm could it do?", at which point she comes across this thread  :D

Actually i told my mom someone had been able to penetrate 1/4" steel plate with a spudgun and she just gave me a funny look...

Don't think she believed me

I think it's a good idea, I also think there should be a showcase section for targets, a safe target is very important.

Maby the showcase sections should have sub-sections. One for combustion ammo stats and target and pics, same for pneumatics showcase ect....

Would be easily searched as well. "Specifically about shots taken and not for cannon posting but links to the cannon used would be useful."

Ooh, that would be harsh - and I'm not sure that "mother" would have any idea about the vast power gap between a simple combustion spuddy, and DYI's colossus.

Mind you, if my parents were completely wised-up to the capacities of some of my launchers, they might not be as receptive to them.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

DA: Your Honor, I would like to present evidence that proves Redneck Jim murdered Hillbilly Bob. Exhibit A, The Baby Carrot Ballistics Chart.
Defense Attorney: I object!!!
The Judge: On what grounds?
Defense Attorney: The fact that this ballistics chart is for combustions and not pneumatics!
The Judge: Sustained.

When you say a projectile is for example:

100g 1/2" steel rod @ 190m/s (1805J)

How important is it to have two similar shots divided because one was from a pneumatic and one from a hybrid?

You could say inside that it was a combustion but when listing them the cannon doesn't need to be there.

Incidentally, for anyone who doesn't want to do 1/2MVsqrd to work out energy theres a handy calculator here if say you've weighed and clocked the speed of a projectile and want to know it's energy.

I find this one to be much more useful, while this one will plot you a graph on how energy varies with velocity for a given projectile weight.
