okay here are my results
this was done with a 1/2in union and all disks burst at 10psi above the pressure I punctered them at.
and a 1/16in nail

first here is what they look like when they burst normally
Image

the first was at 20psi(yes it punctured and did not burst)
Image

The second was at 60psi(not much change)
Image

the thrird was at 100psi(a little improvement)
Image

the last was at 140psi( it looks like it burst cleanly but it didnt have that boom burst disks have, it sounded more like a ball valve)
and you were talken about nails in my face, you are almost psycic because this one blew the nail out of my fingers at narrowlly missed my face.
Image

Well, my conclusion.
upping the pressure will help but will never have it burst as cleanly as pure pressure will.
And It might be different on a larger union although i would just expect it to get worse.

Knew that the nail would attack my face or that the burst disks would not burst cleanly?

Been thanked: 2 times

ok then ill replace it with a razor blade, happy now?

im going to be using a 2" union, i recon it would diff results but meh.

or i could set it up like a triggered bust disk, the 'hole' would drain the middle chamber and allow the main chamber to push its way through both. :D

I would recommend the triggered burst disk setup.
It takes a while to reload but once you get it calibrated correctly it works like a charm :)

Wait, Carlman you have an air compressor right? If you did you could simply add a ball valve or blowgun to your burst disk chamber and release the air till it burst, you should use the maximum pressure on your compressor so it will it ensure that it will burst. Well thats what I do :)

I wish I had an air compressor
but yes that would be another option although i prefer to know exactly when it is going to trigger and not just waiting till it bursts(I imagine with your fancy air compressors it would take a couple seconds though)
but there is just nothing like that jump you get when you have been slowly pumping it up with your bike pump and there is a sudden boom.
Makes me jump out of my pants(litterally)

Edit: if it would be any use to anybody im open to testing a 1.5in union

Okay will do
but i am going to be very limited on pressure as the only gun with a union that big that i have is very large and wouldnt want to put my hand infrront of it at anywhere near high pressure.
and ill test a 1in union for the heck of it also.
