G'day guys,

I would like to make an airgun that can shoot ball bearings and is made of PVC piping that is quite powerful.

I just want to check out some designs etc to give me a few ideas.

Firstly, from our coveted forum Rules:

Discussion of shooting anything at any person and/or animal is prohibited, and may result in a permanent banning of your account.

If you're making a ball bearing gun, high pressure in the order of several hundred psi is ideal for the performance you require, which would rule out PVC in general. My suggestion would be to make a large calibre spudgun (1 inch at least) that can fire a large number of BBs in the manner of a shotgun. This would also alleviate the problem of accuracy as the spread of shot would increase your hit probability.

Have a look through the Pneumatic Cannon Showcase, plenty of suitable designs can be found there.

i whole heartly suggest you to use a soda bottle as a chamber and fill it up with unregged Co2, you will be amazed by the power.

Psst..

You're not supposed to mention the fact that you'll be aiming at living things whether or not it is true.

Geee, I didn't mean to stir the pot up.

I'm just an average 16 year old bloke who wants to make an airgun to muck around with on targets and occassionaly use it on rabbits and Foxes as they are a major problem down my way here in Oz.

Could I please atleast have some help?

We'll be more than happy to help, just stop mentioning you'll be using it to shoot at living things as it is against the rules of this forum ;)

You could start by looking through the Wiki.

Basically all you need for your purposes is a simple sprinkler valve pneumatic like this one. There are plenty of Aussies here who could advise on local sources for materials, and in terms of dimensions you want plenty of power so I'd say 1" sprinkler valve for a 1" barrel, at least 3 feet long, a chamber that's between 50% to 100% of the barrel volume and 100-150 psi of air in it.

I want to make something like those guns as they have the air chamber right behind your ammunition which means you won't be looseing as much power unlike air coming out of a chamber and going into a maze and be time it gets to your ammunition it would of lost a little bit of power. If you know what I mean?

I am looking at shooting small ball bearings, about 3-10mm diameter.

By the way, thanks for the help!

By the way, because I want to get maxium performance, should I have a long or short barrel and why?

The type of valve you use will affect the power alot more than whether you have the chamber behind the valve or use an over under design.

A long barrel will give you more power, download ggdt (it can be found linked on here somewhere) and play around with different chamber and barrel lengths and different valves.

long barrel, more time for the air to accelerate the projectile

Sure...Use all our hard earned knowledge to murder innocent wildlife, wich is against our rules. We 'll just stop mentioning that you want to murder wildlife with it, so you can murder wildlife without getting banned for murdering wildlife.

Amazing how many people are willing to help.
Hey, we don't like spoonfeeding, but here are all the links you need to start MURDERING WILDLIFE!

Why not use a flametrower on the little buggers.?!?!?!

I'd really resent that, and it would be against forum rules, but PM me for accurate blueprints.Just don"t expect me to spoonfeed you.
