what size barrel?

What size barrel do you think will be best? I have 1 foot of 4 inch pvc for the chamber and I'm going to be using a ball valve.

then find a good barrel for it

Depends what you want to shoot really, if you're stuck with a ball valve though I wouldn't go past 1 inch.

For spuds, use a 1 1/2" sched 40 PVC, 4 or 5' barrel.

i wouldn't waste 4" pipe on a Ball valve cannon

If you wanna use a ball valve, use a metal one because pvc one's takes approx 3 secs to open an metal 1/3 of a sec.(good metals one lubrificated)

But please dont use a ball valve, use a sprinkler valve.They cost 20 $ and are 5 x better then a ball valve.

Yeah.. ball valves are ok for the first timers, but a sprinkler valve is just that one step up. Even if you are a first timer, you would be better off using a sprinkler valve by far!!

1.5" or 2" works well for potatoes, and is my most frequently used size.

FWIW, 2" barrels requires fairly largish potatoes to consistantly seal the barrel and because of a typically higher mass projectile, tend to kick more when shot.
