I found this website awhile a go when looking for a diagram of floating o-ring seals. It shows some good diagrams and explanations of what's going on with many different types of o-ring seals.

Nice find. Now if only I could get my double o-ring bolt to seal and slide at the same time...
...any guides on that? w/o lathe?

I think you should make the grooves deeper so that the o-ring is less stretched out and has a lower OD.
You could also try to lubricate it.
As I said: "Save your KY for your o-ringed pistons!"
KY jelly or something like that works fine.
