I thought saying soda bottle made it basically known to the size
I thought you were talking about a water hose nozzle?

If you are asking, what size pipe will fit INSIDE a soda bottle, the answer is still; I have no idea. I still have no idea why you would want to either.

In 'experiments' I have conducted, the neck is always the first place to fail. I wouldn't recommend bolting any pipe inside it. Epoxy should be fine, as long as you keep the pressure under 100psi and change the bottle every now and then...which sounds like a waste of epoxy and time.

Edit: Wow this thread is full of comedians...before you know it we will be sharing Aristocrat jokes

It is for the hose nozzle but what I was thinking was you might know the diameter of the neck of the bottle. And now when I think of it, I don't know why I just asked that...

Soda bottles are made out of <ahref>PET</a> (Polyethylene terephthalate) and will only hold about 80- 100psi, before they burst.

As air is compressed, it generates heat - and the heat will cause the bottles to swell - the plastic stretches - and then ruptures.

I have found, (in MY extensive experience) that if the bottle has a small amount of cold water in it, the water acts as a diffuser, and will absorb this heat.

... I have also found that ALL bottles will rupture at the sides - not on the neck, as previously mentioned.

More often than not, a soda bottle with cold water in it - will not fail, even if the pressure is raised to 150psi. - Of course, this is NOT recommended.

A long time ago, I was in the process of opening a new online store, which was going to sell 2-liter bottle adapters... but it never got off the ground.

To answer a question of this topic; 1/2" SCH40 PVC pipe will slide perfectly inside the neck of most all of the 2-Liter bottles. Epoxy (I would bet) would weaken the neck of the bottle? But, I've never tried it, so I don't really know.

I've made many PVC cannons, using a 2-Liter bottle as the air reservoir. But, they ARE very risky to use.

I have videos showing the bottle blowing out at the neck leaving a perfectly round hole where the neck should be. Unfortunately, I never inspected the bottles with the camera, so you can't tell.

But I have about 8 witnesses who saw it happen. It's happened more then once also. The neck seems to be the weak point in the bottle as ruptrues appear to begin from the top and work it's way down. If you modify the neck in anyway, i'm positive it will fail at lower pressures then if you modified the bottom. The neck can't swell as well as the rest of the bottle it seems.

By my recollection, the typical neck ID is just inside of 22mm. It's perhaps 21.7-21.8 mm.
However, two caveats on that. That's for what we have in the UK, although I am pretty sure there isn't going to be any difference.
The second one is that I've mislaid my measuring calipers, so the number isn't going to be quite right. (But should I find them, I'll go and measure one).

Two fish are in a tank. They say nothing, because fish can't talk.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

it would be a better idea to sell bottles with pressure rating of 300 psi or more

A 1/2 in coupling is good on the outside with a little sanding of the threads. Provides good surface area for epoxy to hold on to too.

So do you think if I use a piece of treaded 1/2 inch pipe it would fit in a basic water hose nozzle?

Like others have said, 1/2" SCH 40 pipe is a nearly perfect fit in a soda bottle neck. The seal won't be air tight but you can get it air tight with a couple O-rings. Google "water bottle rocket" and "clark cable launcher". The O-ringed launcher gives an air tight fit between the pipe and bottle and is regularly used to 120 PSIG (in bottles ~1/3 full of water).

I just mesured, the ID of a soda bottle is only .012 in. more then PVC! that's .006" clearance.
