Well, seen as I'm bored I'd like to make a SSTC.

I'm a bit of a wally when it comes to transformers and tesla coils I'd just like to run some things across before I start building.

I plan to use this as a HV driver/transformer. Will try and find the highest voltage camera I can, using the small photo cap as storage (will rig up multiple transformers and caps if required) to build up voltage, fire the spark gap and power the primary coil.

Now I feel stupid for asking this, but you have the low wind primary transformer connected only to the high wind secondary transformer only connected by a common (not touching) earth, and the resonance does the work?

The primary windings will probably be inside the secondary to make for a more compact unit.

If any HV guys could correct any mistakes I've made, it would be appreciated.

(seen as we're heading up to Perth this sat, I'll head to somewhere that develops disposables and use the magic word to get a bunch of them.)

shouldn't they never touch, i know it is that way in a sgtc, not to sure about sstc

I'll post a link to a high voltage forum, might get removed, if it does, pm me

helps if I post the link

That's pretty much what I gathered. When I get the supply rigged up I'll do some maths and figure out how many winds to put on each coil for a suitable voltage.

Thanks for the link

If you need higher voltage, but don't want the extra weight of a transformer, a voltage doubler or tripler will do the trick. :D For use on a camera flash, you will want to use fast recovery diodes, bleed resistors to prevent an avalanch failure, and apropriate high voltage capacitors for the final cap. Use mylar in the actual tripler.

This ties to the output of the transformer BEFORE the existing diode. It needs AC to operate.
