I have only used burst disks in one of my cannons so I am fairly inexperienced in that area. I am making a burst disk bazooka that will fire "shells". the barrel will be 1 1/4" pvc. I will have a clip-on tee attached to it with a 3/4" handle to make it more ergonomic. the shells will be 1" pipe with a short piece of 3/4" pipe and a 3/4" end cap for the front. the back will most likely have the burst disk. I am thinking I will have an endcap with a nail through it to puncture the burst disk. the nail idea will work but the cartridge will have to hit the nail with enough force to puncture the disk. any suggestions on better ways to puncture the disk would be appreciated. I do not want the gun to have a tank, instead the cartridge is like a rocket, it propels itsself forward. thoughts on wether or not it will work, what its performance will be like, and ideas on how to puncture the disk are appreciated.

I think you hit the nail right on the burst disk! The only thing I can think about it is how much pressure will you be able to store to get what you want. Thats the million dollar question???

The more pressure, the heavier the burst disk, the harder it will be to break. Pointy and skinny comes to mind.

Good point jrrdw but the skinnier the nail is the smaller the hole it makes so the less airflow airflow... The bigger it is the more air flow...

Once penetrated, the disk should fail, creating a bigger air passage than a railroad spike could even create.

Instead of a round point that may fail to cause a tear in the disk, hunting arrow heads work great because they cut a line creating a tear line in the disk.

the problem is I'm not sure if I'll be able to puncture the disk without dropping the shell down like a mortar, the design is supposed to be a bazooka or similar
