Sounds like a great way to set it up!

If you set this on the side of a path, you should only need the two side strings. That will just about ensure that a runner will be struck, as they will trigger the mine then run into the pellets from either direction.

On a bunker, I tend to set these wires as illustrated, having the mine sitting right next to it and having it face away from it. This will cover every angle for the bunker.

Wow, I never really thought about that.

That will come in very handy when playing capture the flag.

Will the other players be aware of the presence of mines? (before the first one goes off of course :P)

You might want to put an obvious one with the approach to it covered by a hidden one.

A decoy mine. Gets the players attention, meaning that they are either flushed to another area (where the hidden mine is located) or either flushed into an ambush. Either way, it draws their attention away from what they need to be paying attention to, which should be you and your team on the 'right' end of the airsoft gun.

They will most likely not know about the mine. When I showed my friend the mine the first words out of his mouth were "we need to get my brothers with this".

It will most likely be set up with the flag right in the middlo of the coverage zone. :D

Couldn't you be accused of cheating if you don't agree that mines are allowed?

It is generally agreed upon, at my field, that there may or may not be mines and grenades.

On the other hand, it may make for a rather nice practical joke...

It's really not an official match or anything, just me and a bunch of friends that get together every once in a while and play airsoft for a few hours. They might let me make another one for them. 8)

You ought to tell them about, then exaggerate a little bit on the details. Keep 'em scared no better weapon than fear. They will walk around paranoid, focusing on looking for the mine instead of you. Its a very good tactic

That could work as well, although I just purchased an airsoft sniper, so they are already afraid of me. I almost always see them before they see me. :D

I really hate to bump a dead thread, but would somebody mind explaining the function of the QEV/popoff valve to me? I'm just not seeing HOW it functions. Is the QEV acting as a shuttle valve, keeping the reservoir closed until the popoff is opened, allowing the air to enter the barrel? Please excuse me for my ignorance, or if any terminology is incorrect. I have zero experience with anything of this nature, I just figured I'd give it a shot.

The QEV has two separate chambers, one behind and one ahead of the piston. The air behind the piston is what keeps it closed. When you open the pop off, the air behind the piston escapes, so the air in front of the piston pushes the piston back, exposing the porting to allow the air to escape through the barrel.

This is the basic concept of how all exhaust valves operate: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/piston- ... t8157.html
