How many shots per minute could a hybrid cannon reach with a mix of 5x of MAPP without getting too hot?

I want to construct a high powered cannon with a decent rate of fire and am unsure if I should go pneumatic or hybrid.

Do you want this to be portable? If yes, go combustion. Both a hybrid and pneumatic will need to be pumped up and the hybrid needs to have fuel measured, burst disks put in place, ammo loaded, vented etc.

My burst disk hybrid used to get pretty hot with a terrible rate of fire (perhaps a shot every 5-10min) with a maximum of about 5 shots a day. The burst disks can be a pain in the ass so it might be better to go with a piston hybrid. Still need to vent it, fuel it, pump it up, load the ammo, configure the piston (air spring?) etc. I think either SB15 or SpudFarm were getting a single shot a minute.

What do you define as high powered? An advanced combustion will perform the same as some pneumatics. You can even out-peform 2" piston valved cannons with a combustion.

You can avoid burst disks using a piston, there are ways around these things... but compared to making a semi/auto pneumatic, it is indeed more complicated.

As suggested above, cartridges should be considered. My mini hybrid gets very warm after just one shot, firing several shots per second would probably set fire to the epoxy

I defiantly want it to be portable, but it doesn’t have to be tiny. An attached paintball tank wouldn’t bother me at all, but I don‘t want to be walking around with a fire extinguisher or scuba tank.

I’m looking at using 1.5” spherical projectiles as ammunition, specifically miniature tennis balls . I want to go pneumatic, but I don’t know how many shots I’ll be able to pull off with a full paintball tank. I don’t want to have to constantly be refilling the tank, that is why I was thinking about hybrid. An ideal firing rate would be at least four shots per minute, but preferably closer to ten. My budget is no higher than $200. When I said “high powered” I was thinking at least the speed of a paintball gun. I am planning on incorporating some sort of cartridge as well.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend....

With an unlimited budget and a dedicated professional-level effort, 10 rounds per second is totally doable. Probably more.

And so once again the answer is, "It depends."
