I read all that, and that's the plan so far. I've learned quite a bit from my past few builds, and this piston will built with a floating O ring, using the ring as a check valve.

I had never posted these.
Wow another vintage QDV. Did it have a sliding piston on a rod?
Looked something like this internally, unlike yours it wasn't a balanced valve:

I used a slide valve as my pilot valve. I have a 3"x2" pilot being released by a 3/4" slide valve. I had to use a shite load of sealant on the threads to get it to seal... but it has never failed me yet.

I made a major edit on the Wiki on pilots.

Please feel free to critique it. It may be too wordy and rambling.

It's well written but as with most of the wiki it is a bit too wordy. That's why I was asking about the picture uploads, a few decently made diagrams would be much more comprehensible for the average n00b than a long written piece.

I'll hack it down to size later. I need to work on a couple page graphics for reference. I want to show the problem of too small a pilot.

I can easily cook up some basic animations to show the principles at work, using colour density to illustrate gas pressure.

I was thinking of several different pistons (piston too loose, pilot too small etc.) to show the effect of the different parameters on valve performance.

As I've said elsewhere, there's a lot of talent and experience on this forum and it's a real shame that the wiki doesn't reflect it.

Jack, That would be great. I have not done annimated graphics before. Your expertise would be most helpful. Feel free to update the page as needed. It was originally a couple of sentences long with the simple statement smaller volume is better.

It'll be a way to pass the time while epoxy cures ;)
