I haven't run any tests on this, so I'm just giving you my guesses.

I think the filament will burn out and the glass will stay intact.

For the glass to shatter, the electricity flowing to the bulb would either need to provide enough shock force to break the glass (very unlikely) or somehow increase the internal pressure of the bulb (Also very unlikely). I think it's only possible in the movies, or with a little bit of gunpowder inside the bulb (DONT try that).

Maybe if you scored the bulb in several places with a razor blade to reduce the strength of the glass...

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Edit: 100th post!!! :D

Dumping high energy, high capacitance flash caps through a narrow metal filiment is a commonly accepted way of detonating explosives, even secondaries.

I can't tell you weather it'll shatter a bulb, but it might.

omg this makes a great hollywood myth for mythbusters

maybe carefully drill a small hole, and fill it with water, plug the hole, let heat pressurize the water, and hope for an explosion

put one in a microwave. If people can suggest gunpowder, I can suggest that

What if you drill a small hole next to the bottom, then fill the bulb with propane and make it airtight. When current is put through it that should ignite the propane and BOOM! Not sure if talking about something like that is allowed or not so correct me if I broke a rule..

My mom told me that once, her mom (so my grand-mother) tried a trick ahat consist of putting some air freshner on a lightbulb... to make the parfume diffuse..

After a few minutes the bulb exploded.

Makes sence, the heat would cause it to combust and stress the glass. I would try it but my parents have banned me from fire for reasons I dun want to say lol.

Please don't do that. Think of the glass shards that will be made when it explodes.

But, if you must do it, use like .05 to .1 grams of flash powder (the stuff in fire crackers, which can only contain .05g of flash by law). The reason I say flash instead of black powder or nitrocellulose/smokeless powder (what I assume you are talking about) is because flash powder is easier to set off and will make a flash of light instead of spraying flaming embers if you used black powder. Smokeless (nitrocellulose) doesn't explode without a lot of confinement, so I don't know if it will work very well.

Also, I heard of a way to take apart a bulb without breaking it or anything. I think you need two bulbs, one you sacrifice the bulb, the other the metal. Then you are left with one glass part and one metal part to make a new good bulb. I don't know where I saw that, but since I'm lazy I will let you research that.

wow guys i didnt say anything about explosives, of course if you fill a light bulb with explosives it will explode. i was wondering if i could do it useing just voltage and current alone, but it seems that it wont work but if i get the chance i try any way. (im gonna need a few more capacitors like 3 or something)
