Hi, i'm contemplating a semi-automatic load mechanism. See below animated gif for clarification.

- After firing, the barrel pressure pushes the loader (yellow) backwards
- a fresh bb is picked
- when barrel pressure lowers, a spring pushes loader forward again
- loader delivers fresh bb to barrel
- the pin at bottom guides everything, and allows for manual loading

I'm fairly new to all of this (just registered to spudfiles) and haven't even made anything yet. Still in the thinking/design phase, so please let me know if this will have been done in the past and whether it will work or fail

thanks!

pretty good idea , but without machined pices will be difficult to make. you will need o rings at the yellow part move along the barrel.
I would first make the airsoft gun and after that the loading mech.
come undone

Seems a little complex, have you looked at the blow forward valve?

it looks like you are trying to build a gas operated loading mechanism based on a gas operated mechanism in a real gun. what you need to understand is that gas operated guns were originally invented as a cycling mechanism for guns that shot full power rifle ammo where there was too much pressure for straight blow back designs. there isn't the same excess of pressure in a bb gun. it's more worth trying to do a blow back design or a blow forward design, the advantage of the blow forward design is that it only uses some of the initial energy of the shot to close the breech then diverts all the air for propelling the projectile.

I've been pondering something similar to OP based on on a short stroke gas system. BBs have a relatively loose fit as far as projectiles go. would this system viable on lead balls?
